A proper winter warmer that leaves a good taste: this year we’re donating 25p from the sale of every Better Brownie Mocha to Crisis Charity to help the homeless this Christmas season.
Like all great love stories, our relationship with Crisis started with the unlikeliest of encounters. Back in summer we celebrated National Leon Day, a holiday we’d never heard of before but certainly not one we’d overlook. Noting 6 months till Christmas, National Leon Day took place on 25th June and we celebrated by offering everyone bearing our namesake a free lunch on us.
Leon Downer, a data analyst working in the city, used the opportunity to visit as many LEONs as he could after work and donate his free meals to homeless people he encountered nearby. Leon documented his day with a short film, which racked up views on YouTube and quickly got our attention.
We invited Leon along to our Christmas Menu food meeting, and asked him if he could help us find a charity to partner with for our Better Brownie Mocha. Leon told us about the work he’s done with Crisis, helping out at their centres as a guitar teacher and participating in several Crisis Square Mile 5k runs. We were sold.
Crisis do amazing work to help the homeless all year round. At Christmas they set up centres throughout the UK, giving those on the street the chance of a warm bed, a proper Christmas lunch, and access to vital facilities such as dental and medical services, wellbeing activities and social care.
