Fred's Classic Beef Burger

1Onion, cut into chunks
450gMinced Beef
1 tablespoonof Olive or Vegetable Oil
Freshly Ground Black Pepper

This is about as simple as it gets: just beef, onion, salt and pepper. Fred says he used to mess around with this recipe a lot more, but he made so many for his chums during 1996 and this was the one everyone preferred.

1. In a food processor, blitz the onion into tiny pieces. Add the minced beef and pulse just enough to mix the onion into it. You don’t want to be too over-zealous here, or you’ll end up with a meat paste. We want it well blended, but with texture.

2. Turn the meat mixture out into a bowl and season well with salt and pepper, mixing it together thoroughly with your hands. Now divide it into 4 equal-sized patties.

3. Heat a non-stick frying pan over a medium-high heat. Rub both sides of the patties with olive oil and season them again with salt and pepper. Then pop them into the pan. Fry for 10-15 minutes, turning once or twice, until they’re cooked how you like them. Serve in a bun, with lettuce, tomato, onion rings, ketchup and mustard.
